When I was laying the plans for this year I knew it was going to get busy, but I figured we'd get through it somehow. In retrospect, OMG, what was I thinking?
Here's what we did:
-I tried to impress at my new job (less than a month into it when the new year began)
-We bought a new house clear across the country from where we'd been living
-We moved to the new house. David drove with a friend. I flew with my mother and my 20-month-old son (WORST age to travel at for a toddler, I think)
-The airline lost my baggage which contained my collected treasures of a lifetime. It is gone forever.
-We sold the old house, just as the market in Silicon Valley was starting to crumble
-We started our son in a new daycare near the new house, and yanked him out two weeks later because it sucked. He is now in a good daycare again
-We remodeled the new kitchen, with David doing some of the work himself
-Three of four bedrooms remodeled by David
-We had another baby
-David began the basement remodel
-David started a new job
-I returned to the new job after a maternity leave of 11 weeks.
-Somehow we managed to finish our Christmas shopping, travel across the country and visit our old stomping grounds and David's family for Christmas with toddler, baby and ALL THEIR GEAR. We haven't sent out our new years cards yet, but there's a preview below.
Because I knew the year was going to be busy, I didn't put a lot of pressure on myself in terms of resolutions/goals for the new year. Indeed, there were only two: to nurture my inner Martha Stewart and to nurture my outer Cindy Crawford.
Here's how I did:
1. The Martha resolution. Well, I had a copy of Living magazine in the hospital with me post-partum. I didn't read it, but it was there. It's the only copy of Living magazine I have ever owned. Also I bought and read part of Martha's book about entrepreneurship. It was interesting to read about her early days and how she decided on various projects and businesses. Because of these two actions, and the low bar I set for myself this year, I am counting this as a tremendous success.
2. The Cindy resolution. Well, not so much. Does going to the grand opening of a local Sephora count?
Coming soon: list of goals for 2008.
Meanwhile, here's the New Years card photo. Happy New Year everyone!
AWWW on the photo.
And on the rest: holy crap, woman!
Congratulations!

The low bar you set? LMAO here woman, you've done more in one year than most women do in 10. How about a resolution to take it easy?
